Australian Solar Homes and Communities Plan
Latest news
The Government will continue to meet demand under the Solar Homes and Communities Plan, which will transition to the Solar Credits scheme in mid 2009. Solar Credits will replace the Solar Homes and Communities Plan as the Government’s primary means of supporting the installation of solar power systems. The Government will work with industry to ensure a smooth transition to the new arrangements.
The Solar Homes and Communities Plan provides cash rebates for the installation of solar photovoltaic systems on homes and community use buildings. Schools are no longer eligible for funding under this program. Schools can apply for grants under the National Solar Schools Program from July 2008 to June 2015.
The Solar Homes and Communities Plan ensures that rebates get to the households that need them most through the introduction of a means test, with households with an annual taxable income of less than $100,000 eligible for the rebates.
Eligibility
· Rebates and grants are available for the purchase and installation of major equipment items.
· Equipment must be new and not second-hand.
· Residential rebates are for photovoltaic systems that are connected to a main-grid or are very close to a main-grid.
· Any system eligible for a rebate under the Renewable Remote Power Generation
· Program is ineligible for the Solar Homes and Communities Plan; applicants should discuss which rebate to apply for with an accredited designer and installer.
The person who carries out the installation must be accredited for design and installation of photovoltaic systems.
· Renewable Remote Power Generation Program
